A $1000 cash award presented to a graduating West Price Hill High School Student from the Class of 2016 in memory of Larry Schmolt.
Larry Schmolt was President of the Price Hill Civic Club from 1985-1995. A former Cincinnati Assistant Fire Chief, Larry retired in 1983. Larry was a lifelong West Price Hill Resident and he dedicated much of his life to the community.
Larry is often credited with the revival of the beloved Price Hill Thanksgiving Day Parade. He was a member of the Mother Seton Council Knights of Columbus and The Price Hill Historical Society where he also served as a past President. Larry was instrumental in the founding of the Price Hill Historical Society along with his late wife, Lee. He was also a member of St. Lawrence Church.
Larry penned many editorials on behalf of West Price Hill in the later years of his life which were frequently published in the Enquirer and Price Hill Press. Larry loved the community and was frequently seen out enjoying it. Larry enjoyed Price Hill’s many saloons and penned a popular book called “Price Hill Saloons and much, much, more!” about them in 2011.
Larry promoted our community and its many causes and events everywhere he went. These things mattered a great deal to Larry and were often intertwined in conversations with him. He was like an Ambassador in his enthusiasm for West Price Hill. This and all his service to West Price Hill and the City of Cincinnati earned him the honor of City Council resolution recognizing his exemplary service in December of 1995.
A fixture at meetings of the Price Hill Civic Club, Larry could always be counted upon to answer historical questions, tell a good story and raise a little heck about issues that mattered most to him. Larry’s dedication, spirit and loyalty for West Price Hill are virtually unmatched and will leave a void for many years to come. The Price Hill Civic Club honored Larry with the Spirit of West Price Hill Award in 2012.
We honor Larry once again, by helping a West Price Hill student go to college with the Larry Schmolt Scholarship in this our 101st year. We hope this small gesture helps express our gratitude to West Price Hill’s dearest old friend for his service, his caring, his dedication, his loyalty and most of all his determination for making this community a wonderful place to live.
